The Martha Washington’s Choice Bedspread is the most iconic terry bedspread ever produced by Bates. Released in 1940 under the name “George Washington’s Choice”, it was the first hobnail bedspread to ever be woven on a mechanical loom.
This vintage bedspread pattern is a replica of the handwoven candlewick bedspread that George Washington lovingly gave to his bride, Martha, on their wedding day. It quickly became a household favorite and continues to be our number one seller today.
The steadfast favorite has been in continuous production for over 80 years and during that time has also been labeled “America’s First” and simply “George Washington”.

It’s so beautiful and I love it so much. It fits my kind bed perfectly and it’s a great American made product. My grandmother had these and I’ve always wanted my own. They are well made and worth the money. They area great value for the cost.
My wife received a Bates bed spread 40 years ago. For Christmas I wanted to give her a replacement. I was so excited to learn I could still get the Martha Washington bed spread. The quality and design is the same as our original spread. It is beautiful and will be treasured as much as our original bed spread.

I purchased this bedspread to replace an identical one I have used for more then twenty five years! The old one was beginning to show it's age. I can't imagine any other spread in my bed. Love , Love, Love it!!
Very nice quality. Just what I wanted,,,,, Perfect. My only non problem was, it would have been nice to have had a different shipping option. Free shipping is great, but the lowest tier UPS might as well be USPS. People paying for this level of product, don't mind paying for expedited or ground shipping. The bedspread is perfect in every way. Very well worth the money.
