Colonial Rose Cotton Matelasse Bedspread
Description
The Colonial Rose Bedspread features an all-over floral and palm leaf pattern that carefully balances the organic with the geometric.
This cotton bedspread was originally introduced in the 1950s as a classic matelasse but was later transitioned into production as a flat jacquard quilt called "Brittany" in the 1970s. Flat jacquards, lacking the signature “puff” of a matelasse bedspread, did not take off in popularity and so the pattern was discontinued.
In the early 2000’s, Bates resurrected this vintage bedspread as a lightweight matelasse in an effort to provide an affordable option for those customers seeking the quality of the matelasse bedspread but in a lighter weight fabric.
