The Martha Washington’s Choice Bedspread is the most iconic terry bedspread ever produced by Bates. Released in 1940 under the name “George Washington’s Choice”, it was the first hobnail bedspread to ever be woven on a mechanical loom.
This vintage bedspread pattern is a replica of the handwoven candlewick bedspread that George Washington lovingly gave to his bride, Martha, on their wedding day. It quickly became a household favorite and continues to be our number one seller today.
The steadfast favorite has been in continuous production for over 80 years and during that time has also been labeled “America’s First” and simply “George Washington”.

It was kind of short from the sides. I'm hoping when I wash it, it will expanded a little.
It’s so beautiful and I love it so much. It fits my kind bed perfectly and it’s a great American made product. My grandmother had these and I’ve always wanted my own. They are well made and worth the money. They area great value for the cost.
